Koh Samui Airport

One of the nicest airports I've been in, all open plan with beautiful well kept flowers and gardens.

Sitting in courtesy corner using the wifi and enjoying the lovely complimentary food and drinks, lots to choice from, sandwiches, cakes, pizza, sticky rice, popcorn, different juices, milks, teas and coffees!

Koh Samui

Bit overcast today so an early morning walk along a nearly deserted Chaweng beach.

Visit to the Big Buddha, known locally as Wat Phra Yai.

Next stop was to see the Grandfather and Grandmother rock formations, Hin Ta and Hin Yai, unfortunately as it was a bit choppy Grandmother was under water!

A folklore of Samui Island tells the story of an old couple by the name of Ta Kreng (Grandpa Kreng) and Yai Riem (Grandma Riem) who lived with their son in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Since their son had come of age, they felt that it was time he got married.

“One day they decided to sail to the neighbouring province of Prachuap Khiri Khan to ask for the hand of the daughter of a man named Ta Monglai. During their sea journey, their boat was seized by a storm. The old man and his wife were unable to swim ashore. They died at sea, turning into rocks as proof to the would-be bride's parents of their true intentions. The rocks stand there to this day."

Last stop was to visit the mummified monk.

Muay Thai kick boxing

Went along last night to Phetch Buncha Samui Stadium to watch some kick boxing.

Got a ticket in the cheap seats but as I got there earlier had probably a better view than most, stadium filled up quickly and at 2100 the first of 8 fights started.

Fighters were from all over the world, Thailand, France, Switzerland, Italy and England.

Jeez, these guys were hard as nails, pretty impressive fighting.

Full Moon Party

Booked a VIP speedboat from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan with Petcherat marina, 1400 baht (cheaper boats available but so glad I went with this company) price included return taxi from hotel and speedboat transfer.
Boat leaves from 1700 right through the night and returns pretty much every hour, last boat home is at 0800.
Crossing was a tad choppy and bumpy and im not afraid to admit, i was proper shitting myself, glad I had a life jacket on! So after 30mins of hell arrived in one piece!
Took a songthaew from the pier and went to meet friends staying in The Bay Lounge resort, lovely resort built in to the rocks. The resort was celebrating its 1st birthday so there was live chill out music at the bar, a DJ playing excellent techno at the pool, with fire dancers on the beach. It was pretty cool sitting outside their hut, drinking beer, watching the sun set and everything going on!
Headed in to Haad Rin area later on for the Full Moon Party, 100 baht fee.
All along the street were stalls selling buckets of alcohol and fluorescent paint! You could buy a mixture of pretty much anything u wanted to put in your bucket! We opted for vodka and Thai red bull! 300 baht!
Arriving at Sunrise beach, we were met by a sea of party goers, some in worse states than others, most were painted with the fluorescent paint!
Dotted along the beach the varies bars had different music blasting out, techno, drum & bass, jungle, chart, psytrance, house. It was just a case of walking along the beach till you found what got you going!
A huge Full Moon Party sign was set on fire and everyone went mental.
A very friendly crowd, maybe 10,000 of them, young and old, from pretty much every where in the world.
Didn't see any trouble but there were loads of people passed out on the beach, throwing up, pissing in the sea, people had lost friends, flip flops, bags, phones and money!
Took a disposable camera with me as didnt want to lose my phone so won't know if my photos are any good till I get it developed!
Now for the fun part, getting home, having hated the journey over there was no way in hell I was doing the return in the dark, so headed to the pier at first light, the queues for the boats were horrendous, people pushing and shoving and not very happy. As I had paid more for my ticket, my boat was waiting, no queue!
A fantastic night!

Koh Samui

2 hour flight with firefly from Subang airport and I'm now in Koh Samui.
Hotel is ok, at the quieter end of Chaweng beach.
Dropped off my bag in my room and headed straight to the beach, pretty nice, walked all the way along till I got to Ark bar, dance tunes blasting, stopped for a beer and a spot of people watching then headed back!
Enough excitement for one day, goosed!

Stormy weather!

Thunder and lightning storms are always best watched whilst sitting in a bar on the 33rd floor with a cold glass of Tiger beer!
Ps, the swimming pool is in
the bar!

Kuala Lumpur

Up early this morning to get a ticket to visit The Petronas Twin Towers, queue wasn't too bad at 0745 so managed to get a ticket for 0915 tour, pretty impressive buildings and view!

Next was a trip to The Batu Caves, managed to successfully get there on 2 trains without getting lost!

Worth the climb up all those steps!

Fog!

Flight left Glasgow bang on time and was pretty empty, had no one sitting next to me so was able to stretch out.
Food was good, smoked salmon, chicken tikka masala, i passed on the sticky toffee and banana torte.
Watched Lawless and Expendables 2. Had a wee snooze and was looking forward to arriving in Dubai.
With 40 mins till landing we were still above the clouds along with maybe 8 other aircraft that i could see from the window, we circled at 20,000 feet for about 1.5 hours due to heavy fog and congestion at the airport!
Finally landing 2 hours late, the airport was hectic, all the boards showed delays.
I made my way to the gate and arrived 10mins before my next flight was due to depart, we eventually all got boarded and there we stayed for 4 bloody hours!
I hate being delayed!

Airport!

Just checked my bag in. Sitting in a very empty bar having a large glass of Pinot Grigio to settle the nerves!
Honestly didn't think I would be this anxious but hopefully once I'm on the flight I will calm down!
